A short history of search engine optimization!
Website optimization or more commonly called SEO- search engine optimization- was started as early as the mid 1990's. At the beginning, all a website owner had to do was to submit the site address or URL to the search engines which then indexed the site and its content. The value of optimization and high search engine ranking was realized later on. The term SEO was used for the first time in 1997. Then, certain marketing companies started calling themselves as an SEO company and offered optimization services to their clients. Earlier, search engines relied on information provided by the website owners and hence gave an opportunity to the black hat SEO practitioners. This resulted in ranking manipulation and abuse. Thus, search engines brought more complex algorithms to get the most relevant results. The SEO companies were thus forced to work on content and design building rather than simply stuffing up pages with numerous irrelevant keywords.
After Google was founded in 1998, the concept of link spamming provided the search engines with yet another challenge. Till 2004, the search engines had started to use hidden factors to reduce link manipulations. Even later, there came the concept of personalization of search results based on previous search entries. The concept of real-time based search came later on, in 2009. Thus, as a result, the fresh content could get a higher rank. This resulted in the need of regular updating of content for the purpose of optimization.
Until now, SEO companies enjoy popularity as the need of hour in this era of online marketing. But working as search engine optimizer is not an easy task. It requires capability, experience, devotion and a lot of hard work as well. Therefore, SEO companies keep using different techniques for getting more and more clients and build up their reputation.
